Happy Hips at the Wall
Hello fellow Striders! I’m April Ropes, Yoga Teacher and Runner (recently, a slower runner). As many of you are aware, runners often have tight hips. There are many ways to strengthen and stretch this area of the body, but have you tried using a wall? The wall is a great tool to provide guidance in yoga poses. Pressing into the wall can help you to engage your muscles where you might not engage in a typical stretch or strengthening routine. Check out this short sequence to help make your hips a little happier. Be sure to do this sequence when you are warmed up. Do some hip circles or spinal movements to warm up. Use your breath throughout the sequence and always tune into sensations. If you feel pain, stop and back off or don’t do it. You want to feel sensation, but not so much that it’s unbearable. Enjoy! Please reach out with any questions and/or join me for a yoga class at Synergy Wellness in Hudson.
