Injuries don’t just take a toll on your body—they mess with your mind, your motivation, and even your connection to the running community. I’ve been feeling that lately, big time.
Back in May, I hit a major goal with my Half Marathon and was feeling great—until I got injured shortly after. I figured it would be like past injuries, a few weeks of rest and I’d be back. But this one? It’s taken months.
At first, I was desperate to feel that endorphin rush again. I missed moving, missed the routine, and honestly just felt off without it. So I tried to come back too soon… and that backfired. I ended up feeling worse—physically and mentally. I even found myself avoiding my running friends because it was a tough reminder of what I couldn’t do.
Lately though, things have started to shift. I’m getting some answers (finally!), even though there’s still a lot that’s unclear. In the meantime, I started walking—just to move a little and feel like myself again.
What I didn’t expect? Finding a whole crew of walkers out there too, each with their own reason for being sidelined. It reminded me that I’m not alone in this, and honestly, it’s been a bright spot meeting the walking crew at HCS.
So if you’re dealing with an injury or just going through a rough patch, here’s your reminder:
Healing isn’t a straight line. Moving forward doesn’t always mean running. And there are people out there ready to walk this part of the journey with you.
One step, one walk, one day at a time. 🖤👟
P.S. I finally did my first HCS group run in a long time (shoutout to the Back of the Pack!), and it felt so good to see everyone again.
